Their relationship is already extremely messed up: Felix is a trans guy in this AU, and his girlfriend self-identifies as a lesbian. When they began dating, he had only just got out of witness protection after testifying against his aunt, a witch who was running a years-long ritual - she planned to sacrifice Felix. ◦ talks down to him constantly. Felix has memory issues and he's more than a little fucked in the head after spending years drugged to the gills to increase the potency of his blood. it's easy for her the gaslight him and make him believe that her version of events is the truth
◦ rapes him. she insists on her lesbian identity even harder when they're sleeping together, and he's touch starved enough to go with it
◦ encourages him to self harm / refuses to talk him down when he dares to ask for it / ignores his calls and texts on bad days
◦ forces him to out himself to her friends and then makes fun of him for thinking he can ever be a guy
◦ withholds touch deliberately to make him desperate and anxious
◦ makes fun of his interests, asks to read his poems and then tears them apart and denigrates his special interests
◦ withholds food when he's "acting up" - the days when his anxiety and c-ptsd are especially bad - and pairs it with using the right pronouns.
◦ every time he tries to tell her he's a guy/insist on being gendered correctly she tells him that if he were a guy, then he'd have been raping her every time they had sex.
and that's just off the top of my head.
ive been listening to boygenius for a while now and it's spacing me out in the best way. my brain is always so fast, and when i get stuck it's more anxiety-inducing than anything, but sometimes music lets me achieve this lovely sweet spot of slow and calm and i imagine this is what a good trip feels like.
