i really dont like Andrea Long Chu and Contrapoints.

Q. who the fuck is ALC?
ALC [Andrea Long Chu] is a ~leftist~ trans lesbian.
relevant links: twitter / the article she wrote for the NYT
she's also deeply, deeply biphobic and transphobic.

I don't like ALC. I'm not going to try to hide this. I hate her for legitimate reasons and also in a "fuck the way she chews her salads" way.

Some of her shit tier takes include:
- bi women who date men deserve the rape and abuse they face.....uh okay. radfem
- butch lesbians have masc privilege.........radfem again ! wow
- bi women who are married to men have straight privilege ...this is a trend
- transfeminine butches are just too poor to afford the surgery....ooh we edging into trscum territory now
- bottom surgery for trans women results in a wound....yikes op. big yikes
and so on and so forth. I really can't dig through her entire twitter, I just ate dinner.

but she also has an ongoing friendship with Contrapoints / Natalie Wynn.

1. shes not very engaged with the trans community. imo this is her biggest flaw, because theres a lot of ways in which she prioritizes cis people over trans people...which is fine, someone has to reach out to cis people, but her lack of engagement with trans people and active refusal to listen to any criticism of her position alongside the fact that shes been out for like, 3/4 years at MOST means that she says a lot complete bullshit. a lot of newly out trans people have a phase of not being good at engaging with trans people, but the vast majority of them dont get shit tons of money from patreon and give ted talks

2. her transmisogyny. this is an offshoot of point 1, but she definitely believes that trans women have male privilege prior to coming out. i think this in part due to her own experiences - she wasn't very dysphoric pre-transition, but she is now. she says she had male privilege when she passed as a man, and she ignores that a significant amount of her so called 'male privilege' was the privilege of being a middle class white person. which is a privilege she's still afforded.

3. despite her transmisogyny and her lack of engagement with trans people, shes still held up as this, idk. paragon or figurehead of the trans community. and shes really not and it's unfair to most trans people whose voices are being silenced to prioritise a white woman

a lot of butch trans women on tumblr have criticised her for some of her tweets
contra retweeted something by ALC which basically said "butch trans women are just too poor to afford surgery/hormones"..........which sure is A Take I Guess
like..........u can totally invalidate trans people's presentation choices I Guess
contra engages a worrying amount with ALC
recently stephanie beatriz got engaged to a man and ALC rt'd that article going "you're straight and queer at the same time" which IS NOT HOW IT WORKS LMFAO

anyway. people have called contrapoint's views 'truscum/truscum adjacent" which..........theyre not wrong
like she Believes Nonbinary People Exist but shes also hugely disrespectful towards trans women whose experiences differ from hers and shes mentioned trans men in her activism....i can count on one hand the times shes done that

so like. thats a big fucking yikes from me, and a hard pass, and I don't like them and their shitty takes and I want to know why trans people have to put with intellectually dishonest wankers like this being the figureheads of our community in the broader internet trans discourse

I was involved with trans leftist twitter when the first truscumy Contra stuff came out, and I realized that the reason why so many people are pissed at her but not ready to let her go is because she has gender politics that are similar to them. I mean Contra isn't even the worst take I've seen about trans men and nonbinary people on trans twitter, she was just the loudest, but yeah I really do agree with everything you said about her.

When it comes to her not listening to voices other than her own, I've found that response videos to her bad takes to be the best place to not only use the platform she has but also correct people that would take her opinion as the consensus for an entire community, kinda the same way there are alt-right response videos that educate people on why those ideas aren't correct.

I've seen that awful biphobic twitter thread that led to Lena Dunnam, I had no idea ALC went worse than that, that is absolutely awful
